How does the Grant Process work?

There are a few steps involved in getting approved for a grant. The first question is, do you qualify?

There are two (2) qualifying circumstances:

  1. Emergency Disaster Relief: Natural Disasters – anything that pertains to weather and/or fire.

  2. Emergency Hardship Relief: short term illness, severe injury, abuse, victims of crime, death in the family, spouse’s loss of job.

As an employee, if you endure one of these hardships and it causes you the inability to afford basic living expenses, you can apply for a KBP Cares grant. We will review your application and if approved, we will pay your bills directly to the service provider. For example, your rent payment will be paid to your landlord, electric bill to the electric company, childcare to daycare facility, etc. The application process is user-friendly and can be completed on a number of platforms.

A Roadmap To Your Application

Begin the process...

Step #1: Fill out the grant application. You must be actively employed by KBP or on an approved leave of absence for no more than six months to be eligible.

Step #2: Having supporting documents are key to making the application process go smoothly. It’s important that you provide invoices, bills, etc. along with your KBP Cares application.

Step #3: Check your email frequently after submitting an application. A KBP Cares Advocate will contact you within 24 hours after you submit your information.

Step #4: After we receive your application, a KBP Cares Advocate will work one-on-one with you on your grant request, make sure you have the right documents and assign a dollar amount to your grant.

Step #5: Your KBP Cares Advocate will submit all your documents to the Allocation Committee for a decision.

Step #6: The Allocation Committee will make the final decision if a grant is approved or denied. Your KBP Cares Advocate will communicate on your behalf and answer questions.

Step #7: If your grant is approved, your Advocate will communicate next steps, the details of your grant award and what bills will be paid for you.

Step #8: Your KBP Cares application is closed once your grant has been fully paid.

Step #9: If your application is denied, your Advocate will help provide other resources and offer additional information about applying again later.

Here are a few helpful tips...

  1. Review the qualifications for a KBP Cares Grant. Does your situation qualify?

  2. Be truthful with us. Were you behind on your payments prior to this hardship happening? Discuss any concerns with your KBP Cares Advocate. We are here to help you but can only do that if we have clear and truthful information about your situation.
